Yates Road fire held; precautionary evacuation alerts remain in place

News Release 2 Kelowna, B.C.  – Firefighting crews have made good progress on the Yates Road area fire in Kelowna and it is now considered held. This means the fire crews have determined that the fire is not likely to spread beyond existing or pre-determined boundaries, unless weather conditions change.

Emergency personel will continue actioning the fire through the evening and night.

As a precautionary measure, the evacuation alert for the 933 properties in the Wilden area (access via Rio, Upper Canyon and Union Road) will remain in effect overnight and until further notice. A map showing the list of roads and properties under evacuation alert can be viewed at cordemergency.ca/map.

Residents on alert should be ready to leave at a moment’s notice. Some things to get ready include gathering key documents and medication, a list of key phone numbers, an evacutation plan including a plan for pets and animals, having a full tank of gas in the car and a 72-hour emergency kit.
