Changes to alerts for McDougall Creek Wildfire

Central Okanagan, B.C. Central Okanagan Emergency Operations in consultation with the BC Wildfire Service, West Kelowna Fire Rescue and Regional District of Central Okanagan Fire Services, is rescinding all alerts for the McDougall Creek wildfire except for 550 Westside Rd S, which remains on Evacuation Order.

To view the map of areas remaining under evacuation order and alert, please visit cordemergency.ca.

BC Wildfire Service crews continue to patrol the fire’s edge and move inward as they extinguish remaining hot spots. Tree faller teams will be nearby to ensure safe working environments.

Although fall has arrived along with cooler temperatures, nearby communities can still expect to see smoke within the perimeter over the coming weeks. This is common with large wildfires and will continue until significant rainfall or snowfall. If you see smoke coming from well within a fire’s perimeter and the area is surrounded by black, burned material, this is typically not a concern. However, smoke rising from green, unburned fuel or from outside a fire’s perimeter should be reported immediately by calling *5555 or 1-800-663-5555.

BC Wildfire has implemented an Area Restriction Order, which remains in effect until October 3 or until the Order is rescinded. This includes the Bear Creek Provincial Park. View the map here.
