Yates Road fire prompts evacuation alert for Wilden properties and area

News Release No. 1, Kelowna, B.C.  – Due to a wildfire in the Yates Road area of Kelowna, all residents in the Wilden neighbourhood are on evacuation alert.  

As a precautionary measure, the evacuation alert affects residents of 933 properties who access the Wilden area via Rio, Upper Canyon or Union Road. A map showing affected properties can be viewed at cordemergency.ca/map.

The fire is being actioned by air support and ground crews from the Kelowna Fire Department.

Residents in the area are advised to be ready to leave their home at a moment’s notice. They should be prepared to be away from their home for an extended period of time, make arrangements for pets and pack essential items such as medicines and important documents,.

Public safety and the safety of emergency response personnel are the primary concerns at this time. 

Emergency Operations Centre staff are working with other response agencies to manage the situation and minimize the impacts, however residents of the area should be prepared to obey an evacuation order.

New information will be released to the public and media as soon as it becomes available.

Emergency response personnel request that the public:

  • Avoid the Yates Road area so emergency responders can effectively perform their duties, please alternate routes for your commute.
  • Please only call 911 in case of emergency
