Update on Mt. Eneas and Good Creek Wildfires

It was a positive night for crews monitoring the Mt. Eneas (south of Peachland) and the Good Creek (within Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park) wildfires, describing them as stable this morning.

The BC Wildfire Service classifies the Mt. Eneas fire as remaining out of control, as it now encompasses a number of fires in the area on the west side of Okanagan Lake. The fire is estimated at 1,000 hectares.

BC Wildfire Service is devoting numerous personnel to fight the fire today, including multiple helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft. All available resources are being applied to the fires in our area on a priority basis.

A total of 1,735 individuals are affected by the blaze, with 41 properties on evacuation order and 656 properties on evacuation alert. For a map of all the affected properties on Order or Alert in the Central Okanagan, visit cordemergency.ca/map.

The Good Creek fire has consumed approximately 400-hectares. It’s anticipated these estimates will be updated by BC Wildfire Service later today along with a plan of attack and resources.

There have not been any new Evacuation Alerts and Orders and all previous ones remain in effect. The status of these will be reviewed later today and only when it is safe for residents, will any changes be made.

The Emergency Support Services (ESS) reception centre for evacuated residents is located at the Lakeview Heights Baptist Church, 2630 Alhambra Drive in West Kelowna. ESS volunteers are available as of 8:30 a.m. this morning to help affected Central Okanagan residents. Residents that are evacuated from their homes must report to the reception centre to receive any assistance and lodging.

Boaters are asked to stay clear of any aircraft crews involved in the fire fighting efforts utilizing Okanagan Lake.
