Philpott Road Fire News Release #16

Central Okanagan, B.C. –  Highway 33 is now open to two-lane traffic through the Philpott Road Fire zone and motorists are asked to obey flagging personnel and modified speed limit signage.

The road had been closed temporarily between Schram Road and Cardinal Creek Road to ensure the safe movement of emergency personnel and equipment. Reduced speed limits and flagging personnel have now been situated at key locations to accommodate emergency activities.

Approximately 88 properties, impacting 202 residents, remain on Evacuation Order and a further 898 residents from approximately 386 properties are on Evacuation Alert. To view a detailed map showing properties that are on Order and Alert, please visit www.cordemergency.ca/map.

Overnight, BC Wildfire Service will position 15 firefighters and a further eight firefighters from neighbouring jurisdictions with four fire trucks will monitor the Philpott Road Fire.

Residents still under Evacuation Order requiring support are advised that the Emergency Support Services reception centre at Willow Park Church, 439 Highway 33 West in Kelowna, will be open from 4 to 6 p.m. today.

The next scheduled update from the Emergency Operation Centre is anticipated after 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.
