Orders and Alerts remain; planned ignition today: Munro Lake Wildfire

Peachland/Regional District of Central Okanagan, B.C. – All Evacuation Orders and Alerts due to the Munro Lake Wildfire will remain in place as crews work to contain the Munro Lake Wildfire. Although there was no growth overnight, the fire is classified out of control and today, BC Wildfire Service is preparing to conduct a planned ignition to secure the southeast edge of the fire.

To determine if you are in the evacuation order or alert area, search your address in the detailed map at cordemergency.ca. The Evacuation Order area does not include residential properties.  Residents on Evacuation Alert should be prepared to leave their properties with short notice.

The fire, currently 310 hectares, may increase in size today due to the planned ignition of and the public can expect to see increased smoke and fire activity. BC Wildfire’s primary goal is to remove fuel between the fire's edge and established control lines. Planned ignitions must ensure the safety of personnel, the public, equipment and property.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO IF YOU ARE ON ALERT:  

  • Locate all family members and designate a meeting area outside the evacuation area, should an Evacuation Order be called while separated.  
  • Pack essential items such as government-issued ID, medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (e.g. insurance, credit, and mortgage information), immediate care needs for dependents and, if time and space permits, keepsakes for quick departure.   
  • Prepare to move persons with disabilities, children and/or neighbours, if assistance is needed.  
  • Prepare to take pets with you and move livestock to a safe area (if possible).  
  • Arrange transportation for all your household members. Fill the gas tanks of personal vehicles.  
  • Arrange accommodation for all members of the residence, if possible.   
  • Wait for an Evacuation Order to be issued before evacuating. Monitor cordermergency.ca for information on evacuation orders and the location of Reception Centres.
