Glen Lake Wildfire changes to orders and alerts

Central Okanagan, B.C. – The Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre, in consultation with the BC Wildfire Service, Peachland Fire Rescue and Regional District of Central Okanagan Fire Services, is rescinding Evacuation Alerts and downgrading Evacuation Orders to Alerts for the Glen Lake Wildfire.

The Evacuation Order has been downgraded to an Evacuation Alert for the following properties:

  • Six (6) recreational properties on Glen Lake Forest Service Road, including 5503 Glen Lake Forest Service Road
  • Two (2) recreational properties at the 15/16 km mark of Glen Lake Forest Service Road

Anyone in the alert area must be ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice and be away from their property for an extended period of time.

The Evacuation Alert for the following properties has been rescinded:

  • All areas within the Regional District of Central Okanagan south of the Brenda Mine site, southwest of Highway 97C (Okanagan Connector) and west of Highway 97.

The Glen Lake Wildfire is classified as Out of Control and BC Wildfire Service continue to fight the fire with ground and aerial crews. Poor visibility may impact helicopters, but all mitigation efforts have ensured little growth in the fire, estimated at 1,116 hectares, which began on Saturday, September 16. Structural protection crews are beginning to demobilize equipment that is no longer required in the community of Peachland.
