Cinnabar Creek Fire News Release 2

The Cinnabar Creek wildfire has resulted in the closure of a portion of Westside Road.

RCMP have set up roadblocks for all traffic on Westside Road, south of Lake Okanagan Resort and just south of Dennison Road. Residents are still able to access Dennison Road. Motorists heading south on Westside Road are being stopped just south of La Casa Resort to determine their residency.

Boaters are being asked to stay out of the area of Okanagan Lake near the fire as aerial crews and equipment are picking up water for the fire attack.

An Evacuation Alert remains in effect for Camp Owaissi, Lake Okanagan Resort and Camp Mewata along Westside Road as a result of the Cinnabar Creek wildfire.

These residents should be prepared to leave their homes on short notice should conditions require an Evacuation Order.

People are requested to stay away from the immediate area of the fire.

40 to 50 paid-on-call firefighters from the Wilson’s Landing and North Westside departments with crews from West Kelowna Fire Rescue and the BC Wildfire Service are on the ground fighting the blaze which was reported shortly after 3 this afternoon. The Wildfire Service is also providing aerial support.

The Emergency Operation Centre has been activated to support crews in the field responding to this incident.
