Bear Creek Fire News Release 5

An evacuation alert remains in effect overnight for 80 properties along Bear Creek and neighbouring roads as a result of the Bear Creek Provincial Park.

Twenty-four B.C. Forestry Service firefighters will remain on the ground overnight to monitor the Bear Creek fire. Residents should be aware that fire and smoke can appear more threatening at night, but should be assured that fire crews are on the scene and working to contain the fire. 

Forestry Service personnel will reassess the fire situation in the morning to determine the next course of action and impacts to properties.

Air tankers and helicopters established a fire retardant box around the fire during the afternoon and evening.

The fire was assessed at more than 2 hectares Sunday night. The evacuation alert affects 80 properties containing more than 50 structures. Residents from the intersection of Parkinson Road north, including Bear Creek Road, Bear Creek Main, Rose Valley Road, Petterson Road and Dougmac Road are on evacuation alert.

Bear Creek Main at Westside Road and Bear Creek Road at Parkinson Road are closed to traffic

Residents in the area are advised to be ready to leave their home at a moment’s notice. They should be prepared to be away from their home for an extended period of time, make arrangements for pets and pack essential items such as medicines and important documents.

An evaluation of the situation is underway and specific details will be released as they are confirmed. Public safety and the safety of emergency response personnel are the primary concerns at this time. 

Emergency Operations Centre staff are working with other response agencies to manage the situation and minimize the impacts, however residents of the area should be prepared to obey an evacuation order.
