Bear Creek Fire News Release 10

Overnight structural crews from West Kelowna, Peachland, Joe Rich and North Westside fire departments worked alongside BC Wildfire Service firefighters monitoring the almost 53-hectare Bear Creek wildfire. They were busy extinguishing hotspots throughout the fire area. Yesterday under favourable conditions crews made good progress on the blaze achieving 60 per cent containment.

In the interest of public safety, the Evacuation Order for 105 properties in Traders Cove and Bear Creek Provincial Park continues. As this is still an active fire it is not yet safe for the Order to be changed.

RCMP members are conducting security patrols throughout the Evacuation area.

In addition, the Evacuation Alert remains in place for 51 properties along Bear Creek Road north of the Parkinson Road intersection including Dougmac, Rose Valley and Petterson Roads, as well as 14 properties in the Pine Point subdivision off Westside Road, north of Traders Cove. These residents should be prepared to leave their home at a moment’s notice.
