Stay prepared for wildfire season
Residents can help by doing FireSmart tasks around their property. Examples include:
- Remove combustible materials and debris, such as leaves and pine needles, from around the home and maintain a 1.5-metre non-combustible zone.
- Ensure firewood piles are 10 metres away from any building on the property. Wood piled against a house is a major fire hazard.
- Maintain trees by removing dead leaves, twigs and branches.
- Plant fire-resistant plants that are less susceptible to ignition. FireSmart selections offer several benefits, including water conservation and the attraction of pollinators.
By completing these small tasks, FireSmart actions can reduce the risks surrounding homes and strengthen the community’s wildfire resilience.
