Tactical evacuations underway in vicinity of Ellison east of YLW
Kelowna, B.C. – RCMP have begun tactical evacuations in areas surrounding the fire. All residents located on Rockface Road, Upper Booth and Farmers Drive are asked to evacuate the area immediately. Evacuees are able to gather at the Emergency Support Services Muster Centre at the Beasley Community Centre at 3450 Woodsdale Road in Lake Country.
Kelowna International Airport is temporarily closed. Flights have been suspended until further notice. Visit ylw.kelowna.ca for updates.
The Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre has been activated to support Kelowna Fire Rescue, along with local fire crews and BC Wildfire Service, responding to a wildfire in the vicinity of east of the Kelowna International Airport in the Ellison area.
For public safety reasons, residents and visitors are reminded to maintain a safe distance from the fire and all fire suppression activities. Motorists are reminded that they should not be stopping along Hwys 97 or 33 to observe or take photos of the wildfire and to allow crews to safely do their work. Motorists are to follow the direction of road crews.
