Kelowna Fire Department

The goal of the Kelowna Fire Department is to provide realistic and effective fire protection and public safety services to all areas of the City of Kelowna. This includes fire suppression and rescue, fire prevention, fire safety inspections, fire training, first medical responses, hazardous material response, specialty rescue, pre-incident planning, dispatch and emergency management.
The Kelowna Fire Department operates from seven fire stations located strategically throughout the City. Each has a full compliment of modern, up-to-date vehicles and equipment. There are 122 full time personnel and 51 paid-on-call volunteers.
In 2012, the department responded to 10,075 calls including 1,666 fires, 789 motor vehicle accidents, and 6,420 first medical response calls.
The Fire Prevention Branch completed 5,053 life safety inspections, 107 public education presentations and 48 fire investigations.
The dispatch centre, which handles 9-1-1 calls for all fire departments within the Regional District of the Central Okanagan, processed 32,113 incidents in 2012 resulting in approximately 240,899 radio and telephone transactions.
The Department’s full-time personnel promote public safety year-round, through fire inspections and public education programs like Fire Prevention Week. Trained volunteer firefighters contribute greatly to emergency efforts in outlying areas of the City.
